I play on a feeder basketball team for Hersey A team and last week we had the best game of our season, yet we lost. We lost by eight, but at least it wasn’t like last years loss to them… We lost by 40+ to them last year because all they could do is hit threes and we left them open for a while. Our coach was tired, we were tired and it made us kind of sad because it was our last game of the season. Everyone had their head down and wasn’t trying anymore. But this year was different. We have improved our defense dramatically well. Our defense is unstoppable, we should have zero losses this season, but we have seven. All of our guys on our team are very fast and we don’t let anyone get by us. When they do, which is rare, we sprint all the way back up to them and get back in front of them. We always bring our game faces. Everyone gives 120% all the time.
Anyway, our last game’s score was 47-39, and’ I had nine points seven rebounds and two assists. I had one of my best games that day, but I wasn’t the only one who had a good game. Josh Bontje had a great game, he had 19 points nine assists and about seven rebounds. He was 3/3 for three pointers and he is probably six foot (That ‘is good). The team we played is very talented and is very aggressive. You can’t stand still with the ball for more than two seconds.
That game I remember going all the way down the court into a hard layup. I got the rebound when the other team shot a three, and I found a way around a guy who had a good four inches on me, and I got the rebound. I faked to the left and he went to box me out on the left, and then I saw my chance. I could easily get by that guy because I was faster than him, so I spun to the right and boxed him out. That was very hard, but I pushed backwards with all of my might, and I got the rebound. I started darting as fast as I could all the way down the court, all I could see was one other guy ready to foul me, and the basket. I was going full speed, then jump stopped, and pump faked so anyone right behind me would go flying, and then I jumped into the one guy down there for a layup… I got fouled, and I was on the ground because the guy jumped into me too and he hit me hard. I looked up and the basket was made and I had a chance at a three point play. I got excited and so did my other teammates, they gave me high fives and they were clapping. I got up to the free throw line, and did my form, I stuck my two feet into the ground hard and got in balance, dribble dribble dribble with sweat dripping down because of how hard I was playing, then I spun the ball because it gets me to feel focused, I stared at the hoop for a second and took a deep breath. I swished the free throw, and I love that sound, the sound of a perfect shot swoosh. This had made us go up by one.
I then got put on the bench because it was time for subs, and I wasn’t going back in the rest of the game. When my other teammates came in for me I gave them a high five and told them who I was guarding, and when I went to the bench I acted like I was happy and I had a good attitude but really I wasn't feeling what I was showing. At the end, my teammates and I walked on the side of the court giving high fives to the other team and saying good game. Every guy I …………...high fived, had a moist, gross, sweaty hand and their head was dripping sweat. It was a very tough and rough game, and everyone was dripping sweat.
