Confusion. The one word that could actually explain this whole situation. It started when father would come home later than usual. And when he would come home on time, he would have scrapes on his arms and this weird type of writing on his wrists. Each one different. Or when all of the power would go out on our street for two weeks. And only our street! That’s when I started to grow suspicious. However, on November 24th, my suspicions finally stopped. But that’s probably because I found out why all those things had been happening...
One chilly day in November, I was casually strolling down the street. White flurries gently landed on my nose. Soon more of those tiny, white flurries fell. A giant smile grew on my face. It was the first snowfall of the year. Eventually, the whole ground was covered with a fine, fluffy powder. A radiant smile grew on my face and I knew that things were starting to turn around.
Nothing weird has been happening and it seems as if my dad has been coming home earlier. Picking up the pace, I start to frolic around in this winter wonderland. Spinning and twirling and just being in the moment made my smile grow even bigger.
But there was still this strange feeling in my stomach. Something’s up. But I just push it away thinking that I probably didn’t have much for lunch. Suddenly a sleek, black truck pulls up on the curb. Only a couple meters away, I didn’t think much of it. My eyes widened at the sight I was looking at. My father had stepped out of the car in a black suit and black sunglasses. My first thought was ‘that is really shady.’ My second thought was ‘why does he look like that? He’s never worn anything like that. Did he change his style? Or is he just going somewhere fancy?’ He turned his head from side to side with a stern look on this face. He starts to trudge over to me down the sidewalk. This doesn’t seem right…
Once he was right in front of me I tilt my head upward to see his grim figure.
“Kaley, you must come with me.” he demanded.
My eyebrows scrunch up together and my mouth turns into a frown. “What are you talking about?”
He stepped forward and grabbed my arm, pulling me towards the black vehicle.
