What's important in this class? Reading, writing, and discussing. We started out with many book talks (seen on this page of the Weebly), writing about what we know and love (paper blogging and writing about our independent reading), and discussing the "WHYs" of all we do in class. I hope it has been a great week for your child - I know that taking it slow the first week is a great way for me to answer the myriad questions about ELA class. Our homework so far is to read 20 minutes each night (this could be 5 min here and there or all in a row, or 60 minutes in one day, etc.). Soon they will be creating goals for themselves, and grading themselves on these independent reading goals. To inspire our class more, on Tuesday, we have Miss Jergens from the AHML coming to give us more book talks, and students can check out books from her if they have their library card! Please remind your child to bring it in after the long weekend.
A note from Dunton - If your child does not have a library card, now's the time to drop by the Memorial Library and get one! Students can now use their library cards at school to access the Memorial Library's online resources. Stay tuned for the next steps in putting these library cards to use.
I am waiting on less than a handful of permission slips to photograph and videotape students - once we get them all in (approving or declining), I can add them to our updates. Updates should occur approximately every two weeks. Hang on for the journey that is seventh grade!
