We've read a couple of narratives last week - "A View from the Bridge" by Cherokee Paul McDonald, "The Night I Won the Right to the Streets of Memphis" by Richard Wright. We also wrote in response to these, and created our own questions to discuss as a class. We have been taking time to silently read in class on Fridays (this may change, depending on our pilot in October), and then write in "big idea books" based on what we've read.
This week, we set up our blogs to prepare for Genius Hour. We will have multiple lessons on developing our digital footprint, so please bear with us as we figure out this whole idea. You will get a link to the student blogs in our next update. September 23rd & 24th, ALL ELA teachers went to training days - see our Raisin In the Sun information on this page. During this time, students read "Charles" by Shirley Jackson closely & wrote a response. They also participated in book "speed dating" to be exposed to even MORE great books! We continued writing narrative pieces, and wrapped up with silent reading and creative writing and sharing.
A huge "thank you" to our first student photographers this week - Blake, Alisa, and Jordan!
