Neuroscience and Phineas Gage... The seventh graders are over the excitement of finding out about Phineas Gage, and are into the tough reading and writing about brain science. We've been working hard these two weeks, finishing the book about Phineas and then reading an article called "Demystifying the Adolescent Brain." We'll be putting the two together next week in our polished piece. Our prompt will be, "Compare Phineas's behavior and brain to those of an adolescent." The rubrics we'll be using can be found on this page of our Weebly (scroll down).
As for Mondays, we have started our blogs and some of us have been posting - at home!! Ask your child to see his or her blog, and inquire about what he or she will write on it. Yes, we may have errors in spelling or grammar... Right now we're focusing on setting up the blogs and writing - sharing our ideas with the world. Some students have not posted...yet. We'll be providing blogging challenges and perhaps an assignment or two to get them to experiment with this idea. Soon our blogs will be accessible to all students on this website. For Block 9/10, these blog will also be used to help prove their grades in reading, writing, language usage (grammar), and speaking & listening. I wonder what kinds of blogs we'll get this year... Some students may be writing about their 20-Day Challenge to start. See Matt Cutts' video on his 30-Day Challenges here.
Will your child be looking for something to read over Thanksgiving break? Check out our student and teacher book talks before heading to the library!
Side note - if you missed the Engaged2015 Tech conference for parents last weekend, the notes from the presentations can be found here. :)
