While I've got your attention... Could you please do me (and future students) a huge favor? Please fill out this survey on how you thought ELA class went this year. It's basic, and no name is required. Thank you so very much - I will use your feedback to make next year even better!
We had our fourth-to-last and third-to-last Genius Hour days of the school year. It's gone by so very fast! It's also been a trip to see where we started with Genius Hour and where we're ending up. Some students have stayed with one project all year long, some have bounced around from idea to idea, and some have had struggles staying with this whole concept of self-directed learning. Hopefully they'll get more opportunities like this in the future to practice choosing for themselves. It can be difficult after many years of being told what to do in school. Our presentations will be on June 4th and the morning of June 5th - the schedule will be coming your way soon, and you are invited!!
We began The Outsiders last week, and will finish next week. All of our resources are on this page. It was such a treat to see students dive into this "classic" book from 1967! What a great way to end the year - students reading something they love - and at their own pace. We'll be discussing their own questions and ideas next week to wrap up. The photos this week are sporadic... No one really wanted to be the photographer, because they just wanted to READ!! It was unusually quiet in the room, and made me think we should do this at the start of the year with another book (or book choices?) so I can get to every child and talk about their annotations each day. It's great to see who understands what, and how deeply they engage with the text.
Another parent joined us to read a picture book last week Friday! You can see Mr. Z. in the photos below. I feel very fortunate to be able to meet parents in this type of setting, and it's been great fun for your children, as well. We've got another parent lined up for next week! A student gave a book talk this week as well - check out her latest favorite here!
Thank you to our class photographers these two weeks - Victoria, Jeremy, and Ashly. Enjoy the long weekend!
