Blogging, book clubs, MAP testing... It seems as if we've done a lot in just two weeks (minus one day for snow)! We did a teeny bit of research on autonomous vehicles, then wrote our opinions about them for our first blog post. Our blogs will now always be an option for when students want to share with the world - their opinions, ideas, book reviews...... ?? I'm excited that they can share their voice loud and worldwide should they want to. I'm not sure where we'll go from here; I'm just glad it's now an option for more authentic writing.
Speaking of authenticity, we started our book clubs this week, and EVERY child is READING!! They are motivated by book choice (all but six students got their first choice - out of eight choices) and by the discussions that started today. Everyone has a schedule their group decided upon, and we'll meet to discuss the books every Tuesday and Friday through the first week of January. Some groups will stick to their schedule, and some may finish sooner. They can then find another book they'd like to read and discuss on our book club meeting days. We'll be focusing on THEME and IDENTITY as we read into January. Ask your child about the book he or she chose! Read along, if you wish!
