We're two weeks into second quarter - and learning about nonfiction while we take time in class to revise our writing from the start of the quarter. We've focused on reference, narrative, and memoir nonfiction, traits of nonfiction, and structures of nonfiction. Some students have picked up nonfiction books to read for independent reading! So many elements of nonfiction are also found in our fiction books, so we're making connections every day. Some students have been revising their narratives during independent reading time, and some have revised them at home. Updates are found on PowerSchool with the most current dates on top.
If your child finishes a book over break, this page of our Weebly may help them find a new book, or the page of our student book talks could help, as well. Please encourage your child to read during your "down time" during break. Keeping up the habit of reading every day has been proven to help children become life-long readers. (And it's the best way to get better at reading!)
We'll see some of you during conferences next week - a Happy Thanksgiving week to you and yours!
