We have finished A Raisin in the Sun! This book, along with the writing activities, has really made us think. We have tackled the final essay / polished piece this week, as well. If you'd like to see how it went, check this page for more detail. If your child is not happy with any part of the grade, he or she can always redo / revise portions at a time. This will take awhile for me to grade, and will be reported on Edline as multiple grades as the standards are separate. This also shows students just where he or she could grow more regarding writing with this one assignment.
Students are starting to give book talks for THEIR favorite books - they are located here on the Weebly. It's always helpful when a peer suggests a book rather than their teacher! It's been nice to see other copies of the books that have been suggested in other students' hands. :) Thank YOU for taking your child to the library for independent reading books - I am excited to see the numbers we get at the end of the year regarding how many books we've read! If you would like to come in and give a book talk, or perhaps Skype in, contact me and we'll see when we can schedule your book talk. You can also create a short video (under 2 min.) book talk and send it our way. This would be a treat!
Students are also beginning to get ideas for Genius Hour, and one group has even finished a quick one! Our Genius Hour celebrations will be located on this page of the Weebly, with more to come. Here is a link to all student updates as of this week (some are still being turned in, and some still need to be "viewable" to all, and ALL are being tweaked as we put in more effort and change based on what we're learning).
Date to remember: Classroom spelling bee - Tuesday, November 18th.
(All-school bee: Wednesday, December 3rd.)
