About Mrs. Kirr

I only get to spend 80 minutes of my day with your child. However, I use every minute to share my passion for reading, writing, communicating, and life.
Get to know me through this Weebly, my blog, my portfolio, my Twitter account, the following video, or email me any questions you may have!

2010 National Teacher of the Year Sarah Brown Wessling once said,
"I have reached the point where I'm more afraid of mediocrity than I am of making a mistake."
Yup. I'm there. If I'm not failing, it means I'm not trying anything new. I'm grateful for supportive administration and children!

One goal for the 2020-2021 school year:

I'm trying to get more in tune with how students are feeling on any particular day. One way I'm doing this is through a modified version of Marc Brackett's RULER approach (see below). I will also continue to learn about each student individually, so I can tailor our lessons to each child as much as possible...

Considering a gift?

Some parents are too generous, and at times consider giving their teacher or their ELA class a gift. If this is the case, please rethink food, and instead consider Amazon or Barnes & Noble (or check out our class WISH LIST through Amazon) - you will be giving more current books to our classroom library for years to come! THANK YOU!
"Students in classrooms with well-designed classroom libraries interact more with books, spend more time reading, demonstrate more positive attitudes toward reading, and exhibit higher levels of reading achievement."

Shift This!

I published a book for educators in May of 2017 - if you ever want to know the reasons WHY we do what we do in class, check it out!

I also published Word Shift in July of 2019... this is also a book for educators.

What your child wants from me...

On the second day of school last year, I asked my students to complete this sentence:
"The perfect teacher is..."
Here is what they said, and this is what I'll aspire to be:
