The Gettysburg AddressWe'll be reading and rereading (and REreading) The Gettysburg Address.
Our goals for this short unit: Give students the opportunity to use reading and writing habits to make meaning out of Lincoln's speech and the revisions he made. The discussion and writing - along with teacher & peer feedback - will emphasize the value of struggling with a new, complex text and the great reward in discovering meaning - incrementally - by rereading specific passages and responding to brief writing assignments. Another benefit - this should help students be prepared for discussions on the Civil War in their social studies classes. |
