We finished our year by reading, writing about, and discussing The Outsiders. Children were very engrossed in the book, and I only heard a few rumors of anyone "spoiling" anything. My favorite part of this unit is when we all discussed the students' myriad questions last week Friday - they all were curious and were able to talk about any part of the book with classmates. Engaging discussions ensued - with text evidence!
Of course, my biggest accomplishment these two weeks was getting together the huge schedule for Genius Hour presentations for the entire team, along with the schedule for each person attending. Many hours were put in, and I'm very happy with the result. I just hope the kids enjoyed the day (and two periods on Friday) as much as I did!
An idea I'd like to share for your children - the AHML Hub will be dedicating Tuesdays from June 16-August 18 from 4-6 pm for staff and students to talk about BOOKS! We tried to have this time here at TMS, but I believe the library will be under construction due to flooding! Yikes! Please encourage your child to join us to talk about books - I hope staff will show!!
We've had thirteen visits from parents for book talks, reading picture books, and even reading a story she and her child wrote (thank you, Mrs. M!). This may not seem like a lot, but it's a huge jump from ZERO in prior years. THANK YOU for helping make 2015 one of my favorite years yet. Please reach out anytime you have a question or concern in future years, and I'll do what I can.
