2019?? Phew!
We've come a long way, and we have a long way to go. Personally, I think sometimes I'm trying to do too much with the time we have. It's my goal to slow things down and take time on what is important for our classroom community. We're going to continue to have reading time every day (even though some students still struggle with finding the right book). To help with creating a list of books we might like to read moving forward, we had "speed dating" of books today. If students don't have a large list from today, it's not from lack of teachers and librarians trying. I'll keep up the good fight, as I believe reading daily at home is a valuable skill.
We finished our polished writing piece before winter break, and I had over 45 revisions to look through! I love that students took the feedback offered into consideration when revising, and I saw a lot of growth that I hope extends to our next piece of writing, which will be with the same skills. We also finished our 1:1 conferences so we could come up with a letter grade that represents our learning from second quarter. These take time, and it's time well spent.
I hope you and your children enjoy and stay safe on this upcoming snowy weekend!
Our notes from the past two weeks are HERE, and our newest book talks are HERE.
Further Reading this week: “Sorry, Parents: Middle School Is Scientifically the Worst”
